Discover (Ages 6-8)
The Discover program provides a nurturing environment in which campers feel comfortable and cared for while participating in a variety of camp activities with a close-knit cabin group that ensures lots of individual attention from counselors.
These campers are ready for new challenges and additional decision-making opportunities. They are beginning to enjoy socializing and making peer connections. The JOURNEY camper to staff supervision ratio ensures individual attention and appropriate levels of supervision while still allowing campers to practice self-expression, discover new interests, and develop leadership skills.
EXPLORER camp is designed to give older campers a chance to build the summer of their dreams. Mountain biking? Sure. Kayaking, photography, AND horseback riding? Absolutely. Whatever your passion, Camp Horizons offers a wide variety of on-camp and off-site activities so that you’re never bored ever—even for a minute!
This program focuses on all things related to horses including English riding lessons (up to 3 hours per day!), stable management, care and grooming of horses, methods of preparing for horse shows, trail rides throughout camp, and even taking the horses for a swim in the lake! All instruction is tailored to the skill level and specific needs of each camper from beginner (steering, post-trotting, basic pole-work, etc.) to more advanced (seat and position in canter, jumping, etc.). Equestrian Campers also have the opportunity to enjoy other great camp activities such as swimming, the zip line, evening programs, camp fires, arts & crafts, songs, skits and more!
Camp SCA is a collaborative effort between Camp Horizons and the Student Conservation Association. Spend time this summer surrounded by nature, preserving public lands, and making lifelong friends. Enjoy taking part in hands-on conservation efforts while exploring in Shenandoah National Park.
Camp Up With People (Ages 13-17)
Camp Up With People is a collaborative effort between Camp Horizons and Up With People and is considered Camp Horizons’ sister camp. Campers participate in performing arts workshops including vocal and dance lessons, while also participating in service projects, leadership workshops, and typical camp activities such as swimming, high ropes courses, horseback riding, and more. The 3-week camp will culminate with an awe-inspiring, one hour capstone performance!
