On a very chilly Friday, our local Harrisonburg newspaper, The Daily News Record, visited Grampy’s Farm to interview our favorite Farmer Bobby! Camp Directors Liz and Trey joined Bobby to talk about the story of our farm and the wonderful impact the farm program has here at camp. Trey shared, “It is something like [the farm program] where you get to spend a day with a farmer who has been doing it for 30 years and has a level of knowledge you can’t get in a book.”
Bobby, a retired dairy farmer, has been working with Camp Horizons since 2017. He brings his personal expert knowledge to the farm, along with excitement, patience, and many, many animals! Bobby does not work alone, turning the farm into a family affair with the help of his daughter and grandchildren. Additionally, Bobby has brought in outside experts including a local blacksmith and beekeeper.
We are so thankful for everything Bobby brings to camp, and for this opportunity to share his story!
